The North Shores Improvement Association (NSIA) was founded 73 years ago to improve the quality of life in our community. It represents the area from South Ponte Vedra South to the St. Augustine Inlet. Over the years NSIA has been successful in representing our community regarding issues and recommendations to county and state officials and has developed many projects to enhance and benefit the community. Members of the Association built our Community Center and Volunteer Fire House, which is now part of the civic and recreational complex at Meadow Avenue and First Street. The property has a playground, tennis court, ball field & dog park managed as North Shores Park by St. Johns County. We are fortunate to have 7 other parks under our jurisdiction, all of them waterfront.

As a result of a formal Vision begun 15 years ago, and the implementation of that vision by community volunteers like yourself in a citizen/government partnership with St. Johns County, we have become a model for the State of Florida -- winning many planning awards and gaining technical assistance by becoming a Waterfronts Florida Community under the Florida Department of Community Affairs, a Florida Main Street Community under the Florida Department of State and creating a Community Redevelopment Agency Area. This has made possible more than $25 million in direct grant funding and investment so far -- creating a sustainable, pedestrian-friendly Town Center for both residents and visitors -- celebrating our historic and cultural heritage and unique natural and recreational environment, which includes a boardwalk, pavilions, water features, public art.

We are pleased to partner with Publix as our community supporter in many events. Vilano Beach Main Street is working diligently with all stakeholders to improve our friendly pedestrian Town Center now replete with a public dock on the river, and availability of water taxi service. The restoration and conversion of the former oceanfront Fiddler’s Green into a community civic center is next on the agenda.

It provides a positive influence by showing that our community cares when we apply for grants or ask for support from our local and state government.
